SRM helpers: what they are, which kind you need, and how to use them free.
An "SRM helper" is any free, unofficial study aid for SRM Institute of Science and Technology (SRMIST) students. The best one for you depends on what you need right now: a syllabus or course-code map to scope a subject, a method for working with the papers you already have, or a calculator for SGPA and attendance. This page explains the kinds, how to tell a safe helper from a risky one, and how to use them. Everything on SRM Helper is free, runs in the browser, and needs no account.
What is an SRM helper?
An SRM helper is a study companion for students of SRM Institute of Science and Technology. Most are built by students or recent graduates, not by the university, and they solve the gaps that official portals leave open: knowing which units are in scope, remembering course codes and credit weights, working out SGPA before results, and tracking attendance against the 75% bar.
What they do
A good helper maps the 2021-regulation syllabus by semester, lists each subject's course code and credits, and gives you the units you actually need to revise. It may also calculate SGPA, CGPA and attendance, or walk you through how to use your own previous-year papers.
What they are not
Helpers are not the official SRMIST portal, and they are not paper dumps. A trustworthy helper will tell you it is unofficial and will not host copyrighted question papers, notes or slides. SRM Helper states both up front on its disclaimer page.
The kinds of SRM helpers, and when each is worth your time
Not every student needs every kind. Pick the helper that matches the job in front of you; a good one covers several at once so you are not juggling six bookmarks.
| Kind of helper | What it answers | Use it when | On SRM Helper |
|---|---|---|---|
| Syllabus map | Which subjects and units are in a semester | You are starting a subject and need its scope | Syllabus guide |
| Course-code lookup | The code and credits for a subject | You need 21CSC-style codes for a form or reference | Course codes |
| PYQ guide | How SEM, CT and model papers are built and marked | You want to predict what repeats in exams | PYQ guide |
| Notes guide | How to organise unit notes and revision sheets | Your material is a mess of folders and slides | Notes hub |
| SGPA / CGPA calculator | Your grade average from credits and grades | You want your semester or overall average now | GPA calculator |
| Attendance calculator | Your percentage and how many classes you can miss | You are near the 75% line and need to plan | Attendance calculator |
| Exam strategy | A repeat-topics method and a one-night plan | You have limited days left before a SEM | Exam strategy |
How to pick a safe SRM helper
Because most helpers are unofficial, the difference between a good one and a risky one is transparency. Check these five boxes before you trust a helper with your study plan — and never download a paper from a site that asks for a login or a payment first.
It says it is unofficial
A helper that claims to be "official SRM" is either wrong or misleading. A trustworthy helper names the university but is explicit that it is not affiliated. SRM Helper says so in the footer and on the disclaimer page.
It is free and needs no login
Calculators and guides that run in your browser and never ask for an account are the safest default. Your SGPA and attendance are your business; a helper should not require a signup to show them.
It does not host pirated papers
Hosting SEM papers or faculty slides is a copyright risk for the site and a malware risk for you. A good helper teaches the method for using papers you already have, which is what the PYQ guide and notes hub do.
Its numbers are stated clearly
The SGPA scale and the 75% attendance rule should be written out, not hidden in a black box. SRM Helper states the 10-point scale (O=10, A+=9, A=8, B+=7, B=6, C=5) and the 75% minimum in plain text.
It tells you when data may be stale
Syllabus and course-code data can lag the latest regulation. A careful helper says so instead of pretending its map is authoritative. Check the copyright note for how SRM Helper treats factual data.
How to use an SRM helper, step by step
Scope the subject from the syllabus
Open the syllabus guide and find your semester and subject. Note its five units and credit weight — this is the boundary of what can appear in the exam, and it stops you revising out-of-scope topics.
Confirm the course code and credits
Use the course-code lookup to check the 2021-regulation code (for example 21CSC205P for DBMS). The code is what students search for when cross-checking against a reference; the credit weight is what drives your SGPA.
Map repeat topics with the papers you have
Follow the method on the PYQ guide: build a unit-topic matrix from your own last papers, mark the units that repeat, and revise those first. This is the single highest-return use of a helper during exam week.
Run the calculators before the deadline
Check your SGPA from expected grades so you know which high-credit subjects move it most, and run the attendance calculator so you know how many classes you can still miss before dropping under 75%.
Close gaps with the strategy and tools
If you are short on time, apply the one-night plan and the Pomodoro and checklist tools to turn the remaining hours into passable answers rather than panic reading.
What is free, and the one paid extra
Free — all of it
The syllabus and course-code maps, the semester and subject pages, the PYQ and notes guides, the exam strategy, and every calculator and study tool are free and need no account. Input never leaves your browser.
Optional — the Crash Revision Pack
The only paid item is the Crash Revision Pack, a one-time purchase that organises the free pages above into one exam-week plan with a printable checklist. Nothing else is gated behind it.
