SRM Attendance Calculator

SRM attendance calculator: check your 75%, plan safe leave and avoid debarment.

Enter your total classes held and classes attended to see your current percentage, how many more classes you can miss before dropping below 75%, and how many consecutive classes you need to reach a target percentage. SRMIST enforces a strict 75% minimum attendance rule — falling below means debarment from end-semester exams.

Check your attendance status

Enter values from your SRM academic portal or manually from your count. The calculator shows your current percentage, remaining safe absences and the classes needed to hit any target.

Understanding SRM attendance rules

75% minimum (hard rule)

All SRMIST students must maintain at least 75% attendance in every registered subject, including theory and practical sessions. Falling below 75% results in debarment — you cannot sit the end-semester exam for that subject.

85% for first-class grades

While 75% keeps you eligible, faculty and placement cells often note students below 85%. Low attendance can affect internal marks, project approvals and placement eligibility at some companies.

Debarment is per subject

Each subject tracks attendance independently. You could be debarred in one subject but eligible in all others. There is no averaging across subjects — treat each subject separately.

Medical leave and condonation

SRMIST may condone up to 10% shortfall (down to 65%) on medical grounds with valid documentation submitted to the HoD. This is discretionary — do not rely on it as a plan.

Practical attendance counts separately

Lab sessions have their own minimum attendance requirement in addition to theory. Missing a 3-hour lab session can drop your percentage more than missing a 1-hour theory lecture in some subjects.

Week-by-week tracking matters

Check your attendance weekly on the SRM academic portal. Early tracking lets you plan catch-up when you are at 80% rather than panicking at 72% with only 3 classes remaining.

Attendance planning strategy

1

Record your baseline every Monday

Log into the SRM academic portal weekly. Note the held and attended counts for every subject in a spreadsheet or notes app. This creates a history you can trend.

2

Use this calculator monthly

Enter updated numbers each month. The calculator tells you exactly how many classes you can still miss and how many you must attend to stay above your target.

3

Prioritise high-weightage subjects

If forced to choose between attending two subjects, attend the one with more credits or a stricter faculty attendance policy. Some faculties are known to be lenient — ask seniors.

4

Build a buffer early in the semester

Attend aggressively in the first 4-5 weeks to exceed 90%. This buffer lets you skip classes later during exam weeks or project deadlines without dropping below 75%.

Semester-by-semester attendance realities

SemesterTypical risk patternAdvice
Sem 1-2High risk — hostel sleep, adaptation, fresher eventsAttend everything first 4 weeks. No buffer means no flexibility later.
Sem 3-4Medium risk — project work starts, selective attendanceCore CSE subjects (OS, DSA, DBMS) need consistent attendance for placement fundamentals.
Sem 5-6High risk — placement prep, internships, elective flexibilityAttend placement-relevant subjects (CN, ML, CD) and use safe absences on electives.
Sem 7-8Low risk — fewer subjects, major project focusSem 8 is mostly project/internship. Attendance requirements vary by department.

Frequently asked attendance questions

Can I check attendance online?

Yes. The SRM academic portal (academia.srmist.edu.in for KTR, acad.srmrmp.edu.in for RMP) shows real-time attendance for every registered subject.

What happens if I am debarred in one subject?

You cannot write the end-semester exam for that subject. You must re-register next semester or in summer/winter term. This delays graduation.

Does OD count as present?

On-duty participation in SRM events, placements and official activities is typically counted as present. Always submit OD forms to faculty within 3 working days.

Is the 75% rule same for all campuses?

Yes. SRMIST KTR, RMP, VDP, NCR and Sonepat all enforce the minimum 75% attendance rule. Confirmed via academic regulations across campuses.

Can medical certificates save me?

Possibly. Submit validated medical documents to your HoD. Approval is not guaranteed. The maximum condonation is typically 10% (down to 65%).

Do I need attendance for clubs and sports?

Some departments grant attendance weightage for NSS, NCC and university sports teams. Check with your department office for specific policies.
